Newport Digital and Film Engagement Photos
Digital and Film photos by Newport Wedding Photographer, Alex Gordias. Newport always finds a way to look romantic, especially toward the end of the day. For Megan and Jared, we started their engagement session in downtown Newport, right as the light began to soften over the historic streets. Brick, ivy, cobblestones, sailboats in the distance — all the elements that make Newport feel like a coastal movie set were there.
I photographed the session in both digital and film, the way I usually work in Rhode Island, Cape Cod, and Boston. Digital gave us clean detail in the changing light, while film kept the warmth and texture of the evening. Newport is perfect for that mix because it has reflective water, old architecture, and sunset color all in one place.
Downtown Newport
We walked through the center of town as the sun dropped, using the small side streets and marina views as backdrops. This part of Newport is great for engagement sessions because it looks elegant without being overdone — it has character without distracting from the couple. Megan and Jared were relaxed and completely themselves, which always makes photographing feel more like joining them than directing.

For the engagement session, we started in downtown Newport just as the sun began to dip below the horizon. The light was perfect — soft, warm, and full of texture. Walking along the cobblestone streets, every corner offered a beautiful backdrop, whether framed by ivy-covered buildings or historic brickwork glowing in the dusk. I photographed their session in both digital and film to fully capture the feeling of the moment.
After exploring the town, we took the experience to the next level with a private cruise on the M/Y Temma from Newport Yacht Charter & Tours. There’s something magical about shooting on the water — wind in their hair, the coastline drifting behind us, and that soft, fading sunset turning the bay into gold. It was peaceful, joyful, and felt exactly like them.

Yacht Charter on the Bay
When the sun was low, we moved to the water for a private cruise on M/Y Temma from Newport Classic Yacht Co. Being on a boat changes the energy immediately — more wind, more movement, more laughter. The bay turned gold, the coastline slid by behind them, and every frame had that Newport-on-the-water feeling. This is where film really helped: soft tones, glowing skin, and that slow, romantic look you can’t fake.
Shooting on a boat also gives you natural variety: standing on deck, sitting together, leaning on the rail with the harbor behind them. It made the gallery feel complete, and matched their style perfectly.

Looking ahead to Glen Manor House
Megan and Jared will be getting married at Glen Manor House in 2025, and this session was a good prelude to that. Newport suits them — coastal, elegant, relaxed — and the engagement photos already feel like the first chapter of their wedding story.
Conclusion
This Newport engagement session was a mix of everything the town does best: historic streets, ocean air, and a sunset on the water. Photographing in digital and film let me keep both the crispness of the marina and the softness of the yacht at dusk. For couples who want coastal New England but a little more polish, Newport is hard to beat.
